How long have you been in business?

Randstad was founded in 1960 by Frits Goldschmeding. Since then, we have expanded to 52 countries. Randstad's general Staffing division entered the Canadian marketplace in 1997.

How many locations do you have in Calgary and nationally/internationally? What locations are hiring locally in Calgary and area?

We have 4 branches in Calgary hiring for administration, accounting, IT, engineering, light industrial and skilled trades roles. We have 85 branches across Canada.

How many people does your organization employ? How many locally?

More than 800 corporate employees in Canada and approximately 25 in Calgary.

What type of positions do you offer?

We offer full time contract and permanent positions. Contract positions are those that cover a specific period of time or on-going to fulfill immediate business needs. Permanent positions involve Randstad sourcing and interviewing candidates to facilitate an employer's hiring process.

Randstad has launched a program called Shaping Your Future. Our objective is to improve the work environment for all young Canadians and to inspire them to complete their education whether that's at the secondary, tertiary or trade certification level. We will take 100 of our own temporary employees who haven't graduated from high school and send them to school.

Describe your hiring and interview process?

Our interview process is quite simple. The applicants apply and then after a short phone interview they will be brought in for a one-on-one interview. Once the interview is over, the applicants will need to provide references, a criminal record check, and a child welfare check. Once these are cleared, the candidate is part of the team.

A Randstad consultant will discuss the following topics with you:


  • Your work experience
  • Your education
  • Your likes and dislikes
  • Your strengths
  • Your talents
  • The kind of boss you are looking for
  • The work environment, schedule and conditions you would prefer
  • The geographic location where you would like to work


Your consultant will then ask you to complete some tests related to your work sector. These tests are a way for us to assess your competency in areas such as languages, computer skills and typing. Finally, we check a minimum of two supervisory references that cover 60% of your relevant work history.

All this information will be put into your employment file so that we can match you with job opportunities that are a good fit for you specifically.

What do you look for in an employee?

Randstad is looking for the best talent to make an impact on an organization. This can include the technical skills, the experience, and the interest to perform the job. We also assess boss-employee fit and company fit to ensure long-term success.

What type of education/training/equipment do you require?

It depends on the areas of expertise they are applying for but we normally require at least one year direct experience in the position they are applying to.

What is the minimum age required to work for your company? Are there different age requirements for different positions?

18 and over for all positions

Provide a wage range for entry level positions.

It all depends on the areas of expertise an individual applies for. Typically, industrial positions start at approx. $14/h and administration starts at $15/hour

What are the hours of the business and general shift times? Are there a minimum number of hours someone needs to work per week? Is there flexibility regarding school schedules?

For industrial, they can be day, evening or night shifts. For administrative positions, they are normally day shifts during business hours.

Is a uniform provided or do employees have to pay for it?


For industrial positions, candidates need to provide their own safety boots. For administrative and professional roles, dress codes will apply at the expense of employees.
